Why is watercolor unique?

Watercolor is a translucent medium, meaning that it allows light to show through. Simply, it is less messy than acrylics or oil, dries quickly and is easily transportable. It is unpredictable at times, and one can learn to create with “happy accidents.” 

What is watercolor made of?

The main components of watercolor paint are pigment (which provides the color) and a binder (which is gum-arabica or synthetic). 

How do i get started?

Seek to learn through books, on-line instruction or local adult education classes.  Next, gather supplies. (See the Essential Supply List on this page). Then purchase basic, but quality materials.  Although a beginner is hesitant to make a big investment, the quality of materials, especially paints & paper make a significant difference as to the results!

What is a giclee?

A giclée (pronounced “zhee-clay”) is a very high-quality print used to reproduce many different types of art.  Giclée is a French word meaning “to spray” which refers to how an inkjet printer sprays the paint to produce prints for purchasing.
